Abstract
Drug cue-reactivity reflects neural processes that preempt craving and predict relapse in substance use disorders. Prefrontal cortical regions play a major role in attention and regulatory control to drug-related cues. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a neuroimaging technique for assessing cortical activity with clinical translational potential. Here, we used fNIRS to characterize cortical engagement during drug cue-reactivity in alcohol use disorder (AUD), opioid use disorder (OUD), and in healthy control (HC) groups.
