Abstract
Successful wealth management firms invest large sums of money to create online platforms where their clients can manage their wealth. Therefore, it is important for these companies to ensure that their portals serve the clientele well. Portals that do not help clients perform the functions necessary to manage their wealth lead to loss of business. Hence, it is necessary to test such portals rigorously before launching them (Schwarz and Winkielman 2004; Song and Schwarz 2008). Usability studies have often relied on self-reported measures that are limited in what they uncover. Companies have launched websites based on findings from such studies and are likely to discover major issues after launch. We propose that a rigorous testing of web portals like those created by wealth management firms should go beyond self-reported measures and use performance measures.
