01 Jan 2015
Abstract
RESULTS: 1,896 MESA subjects were in the cohort (mean age 68.5 years (9.1), BMI 28.6 (5.5); 36% white, 12% Chinese-American, 28% black and 24% Hispanic). Neighborhood social cohesion and safety scales were not associated with AHI in unadjusted or adjusted models. Noise and safety ratings were not associated with arousal index. The walking environment was associated with sleep apnea severity. This relationship differed by body mass index (BMI), with the strongest effect in the obese.
