The authors of the published study “Are Patients Who Undergo THA for Infection at Higher Risk for 30-day Complications?” would like to clarify why they did not include a reference in their paper, as well as to correct an error in Table 1. We were unaware of a study by Boddapati et al. [1]at the time we prepared our manuscript. Although that study was not in print at the time we submitted our study for peer review, it was available electronically; we regret that we did not find it in our literature search, and so we did not reference it in our paper. We apologize for this oversight. Nonetheless, we believe that our work complements and extends the paper by Boddapati et al. [1], which found that revision THA for septic etiologies was an independent factor associated with major complications compared to patients undergoing revision THA for aseptic causes. Boddapati et al. [1] left the effect of preoperative albumin level unanswered, and did not study reoperation as an outcome. We analyzed the same dataset but evaluated a slightly different span of time. We believe that our results expand the findings in the Boddapati et al. [1] paper because we concluded that incorporating preoperative malnutrition and factors associated with reoperation into a medical complexity ratings for existing value-based payment models may help avoid or minimize financial disincentives for orthopaedic surgeons to care for patients undergoing THA for infection. Additionally, there was an error in Table 1 in our published papers. There were 193 patients with preoperative albumin < 3.5 g/dL, which is 27% of the total number of patients, not 46%. The authors apologize for the errors.
