Book
Construction and geotechnical engineering using synthetic fabrics
Wiley series of practical construction guides, Wiley
1980
Abstract
The book provides a definitive evaluation of the use of permeable synthetic fabrics in underground construction and geotechnical engineering. While the initial use of fabrics in construction was aimed at road reinforcement and underdrain systems, their use has developed to include separation of materials, erosion control systems and as flexible forms for sand, grout and concrete. The development and applications of synthetic fabrics are discussed in the following sections - overview and background of synthetic fibers; construction fabrics; fabric use in separation of materials; fabric use as reinforcement; fabric use in drainage; fabric use in erosion prevention; fabric use as forms; impermeable fabrics; and, guidelines and current research and development. Appendices give details of generic name of synthetic fibers and trademarks of nonwoven fibers.
