Book
Medical ultrasonic imaging systems: final contractual report
Contract report, DRDC - Toronto
2002
Abstract
This report begins with a review of the fundamentals of medical ultrasound diagnostic systems, including the resolution achieved by the sound beam, the scanning array & transducers, and the approaches being used toward the goal of three-dimensional data collection. Section 2 discusses the influence of tissue properties on ultrasound system design, including the high & frequency-dependent attenuation found in tissues and the tissue structure, and the imaging frame rate needed. Part 3 examines various aspects of ultrasound imaging systems, including single- & multiple-channel systems, and advanced systems being developed that include beamformer arrays, synthetic aperture operation, Doppler processing & display, non-linear imaging, and image processing based on fuzzy logic.
