The Australian crickets (Orthopera, Gryllidae)
Monograph / the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia, Allen Press
1983
Abstract
In this monograph on the gryllid fauna of Australia, based on surveys carried out between June 1968 and June 1969, examination of material in museums in Europe and the USA, and loans of material from other countries, 492 species are listed (376 of which are new) in 85 genera (41 of which are new). Fourteen previously published names are synonymised and 17 are treated as dubious. The vast majority of the new species were found in the rain forests of Queensland and in other habitats there. It is thought that at least 75% of the Australian cricket fauna is dealt with in this work. Brief notes are given on the distribution, morphology, song and habitat of each species. Numerous keys are provided.
