Book
The allocation of time to work and family roles
01 Jan 2002
Abstract
This chapter seeks to expand out knowledge of the factors related to dual-earner partners' allocation of time to work and family. The authors discuss a number of theoretical perspectives which are relevant to understanding the factors that influence the time allocated to work and family roles. This chapter also examines the effect of work and family identity salience on the time spent on work and family, the effects of partners' involvements in work and family activities, and the effect of time allocations on the psychological health and well-being of dual-earner men and women. The specific variables included in the study and the hypothesized relationships among them also are described in this chapter.
