Abstract
Older adults are at risk for malnutrition (undernutrition) across the care continuum because of physiological, psychological, social, economic, and environmental factors. A diagnosis of malnutrition is associated with increased healthcare costs and negative health outcomes. Early recognition and treatment of malnutrition can impact overall quality of life and health outcomes. Management of malnutrition is best accomplished through an interdisciplinary approach which includes nutrition screening, assessment, and implementation of nutrition interventions that take into consideration patient preferences.
