A Strategic Evaluation Methodology for Manufacturing Technologies
Selection and Evaluation of Advanced Manufacturing Technologies, pp 139-162
1990
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is three-fold. First, a prescriptive methodology relating manufacturing strategy to choice of technology is presented. Second, an experimental evaluation of the proposed methodology is described. Finally, the managerial implications of the methodology are explored in the context of a real-world case study. The forces that shape the firm’s competitiveness, the approach used to operationalize the variables in the real world, and the characteristics of the technologies are discussed. Based on the results of the case study, the technological options available to the firm were prioritized.
