Robust Unionism

Abstract
Labor’s alliances with those who share its vision are almost as old as the movement itself, and the commitment to these friends is one most unionists endorse. When asked in the mid-1980s if the movement should seek closer ties with nonlabor reform groups, 45 percent of national union officers said yes, as did 47 percent of local union officers. Only 27 and 26 percent respectively were opposed.¹
