Abstract
Rather than approaching social issues through large-scale activism as it is often observed today, the authors of this chapter suggest micro-activism: Small-scale deliberate actions to develop capacity in stakeholders that address the polarizing effects of complex social issues. Using position theory and disposition mapping, this chapter explains how to utilize stakeholder ideologies and dispositions to intentionally generate cognitive dissonance, resolving tension through guided reflective dialogue. Action learning theory, cognitive duality, social dominance, and empathetic listening are explored as tools to navigate what these authors term as micro-inclusion and the capacity for realistic and effective activism.
