In this chapter, we focus on adapting interventions for various subpopulations and contexts, which is a normative part of advancing interventions. We explore different types of adaptations, such as cultural or those that are responsive to dynamic contexts. Additionally, we discuss issues such as balancing treatment fidelity with the need to adapt an intervention for broader generalizability and reach. We also present frameworks and models for intervention adaptations. Factors such as language, preferences, values, and cultural experiences of end users that inform adaptation decisions as well as organizational contexts in which interventions are embedded are also discussed. Our goal is to facilitate the process of adapting an intervention to achieve a “good fit” between a treatment, context, and population. As such, we present guidelines for tracking adaptations.
