Abstract
In this chapter, we explore the encounter between Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the Anthropocene. We argue that the field's reflexive approach to theory-methods allows STS scholars to avoid the conceptual and epochal abstraction of the Anthropocene and instead practice it as a method for making new and ethical questions, relations, and collaborations. Following the introduction, we review the evolution of STS's concerns with epistemology and ontology before turning to two frameworks emergent from STS Anthropocene scholarship - the scalar and the elemental used to study the spatio-temporal, political, and affective dimensions of the Anthropocene. We then look at new intellectual and pedagogical practices that emphasise collaboration between human and non-human socio-materialities, such as the 'making and doing' movement's engagement with human and nonhuman affect and communities. To this point, we highlight the Anthropocene Curriculum as experimental events that exemplify STS's greater engagement with the Anthropocene as a method.
