Building Problem-Solving Skills
Psycho-Oncology
01 Feb 2015
Abstract
As discussed elsewhere in this volume, generalized distress, depression, and anxiety are common experiences among individuals with cancer. A comprehensive approach to cancer treatment should therefore include psychosocial interventions to help decrease patients’ emotional distress and improve their overall quality of life. Multiple research studies have evaluated problemsolving therapy (PST) for this purpose. This chapter briefly describes this literature, and provides an overview of the updated clinical guidelines comprising contemporary PST.
