Abstract
This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the book. The book provides insight into how communication needs and demands of academic librarians may change in the future. It perceives that libraries 'appear to have little to offer to the newer researchers. The centrality and importance of communication is best illustrated in a research funded by the Publishing Research Consortium that looks at the attitudes to publishing of early career academics. The scholarly communication model that has been in place for centuries is being fundamentally challenged and librarians need to speak out loud about their roles and purposes. Librarians have embraced new technologies such as mobile devices and social media in their communication approaches, and it is likely this willingness to use new channels will continue. A hologram is a three-dimensional (3D) image reproduced from a pattern of interference produced by a laser.
