Abstract
Talking about real experiences, views, and feelings is at the heart of interviews. With care not to romanticize or essentialize others' personal stories, qualitative researchers discern conditions, patterns, and themes within and across interviews. By conducting interview and focus group research one can be part of the research community that helps the larger public understand the nuances of humanity's lived experience. Some researchers believe that interviews can help promulgate truth and in doing so be used for important purposes such as improving living conditions, educational access, and other social justice issues. Reading research helps us learn about people, develop empathy, break through isolation from different communities, and motivate us to take action to improve the world. This concluding chapter sums up a few reasons why the author has made a career in qualitative research. It offers an opening for one to feel inspired and find their own "why".
