Creative design is the creation of new structure in response to functional requirements. Various ways of producing creative designs are investigated and the key element in all of these is experience. A schema is needed whereby experiences are generalized and stored as concepts wherein function, behavior and structure are associated. The design prototype schema is seen as providing such a suitable structure. The use of the design prototype schema for creative design is discussed.
