Diagnosing occupational hearing loss
Occupational Hearing Loss, pp 363-388
2025
Abstract
The diagnosis of occupational hearing loss should not be based solely on an audiogram showing high-frequency sensorineural loss and patients' reports of working in a noisy environment at work. Accurate diagnosis requires a careful and complete medial and sound exposure history, physical examination, appropriate laboratory and imaging studies, and a complete audiologic evaluation. Other causes of sensorineural hearing loss may cause or contribute to the patient's hearing loss.
