Abstract
I admit to blushing when I read the first two sentences of Frank’s review of my book, not because of the praise he heaps on it but because of the date range he names in it: 1982–2009 is indeed a very long time for a book—not quite thirty years, but so long that it demands explanation. For many years I would not name the starting date, hoping to avoid the stigma of being so slow and preferring to pass as a “normal” scholar, one who managed to publish at least one article or book chapter per year.
