Abstract
Ethical considerations in the conduct of research, particularly regarding the involvement and treatment of research participants, are critical at every stage of an intervention's lifecycle. Investigators conducting research involving human participants must adhere to numerous guidelines and requirements at the federal, state, and institutional levels. This chapter aims to provide an overview of this topic and highlight key issues to consider in conducting behavioral intervention research. We begin with an overview of research ethics and outline the guidelines and requirements governing the ethical conduct of research. Additionally, we discuss topics such as informed consent, institutional review boards, adverse events, and data and safety monitoring protocols.
