Abstract

The facial nerve runs through the ear. Consequently, conditions such as tumors and fractures that affect the ear and related structures can produce facial paralysis. So can certain infections including Lyme disease and COVID. It is usually possible to identify and etiology, and some causes can be treated effectively.
