Abstract
Forensic psychology/psychiatry can be broadly defined as the application of psychological principles to the legal system. The field has grown substantially since its inception in the early twentieth century, and it currently includes mental health professionals working in a variety of settings, including correctional facilities, mental health clinics, psychiatric hospitals, universities, law enforcement, courts, and government agencies. Forensic psychologists and psychiatrists may engage in clinical work (e.g., assessment, treatment, and consultation), or pursue research interests at the intersection of human behavior and the law.
