Abstract
This chapter addresses the nature and importance of forensic mental health assessment (FMHA), beginning with definitional considerations and applications. It discusses the important sources of authority relevant to forensic assessment—law, ethics, science, and practice—and considers the components of each domain that are broadly applicable to forensic assessment.
