Hearing loss in musicians

Abstract
Hearing loss in musicians is a special issue. Obviously, musicians depend upon acute hearing in order to perform their professional activities. However, music can damage hearing not only in amplified rock bands, but also during playing of classical instruments solo or in an orchestra. Unfortunately, although such hearing loss can be disabling, it usually is not compensable under workers compensation formulas because it rarely involves the speech frequencies that are used as the benchmark for hearing impairment ratings. Workers should undergo at least yearly audiograms.
