Humanity's end: Where will we be in a million years?
Post-Human Futures
2021
Abstract
What might humanity be like in a million years? Will we by that time have crossed the singularity and given way to androids? Will we all have uploaded ourselves onto a more highly developed Internet? This paper approaches these questions indirectly. If besides us there is other intelligent life in the galaxy or universe, it is likely millions or even billions of years ahead of us. So the questions about humanity’s long-term future could be addressed by inquiring whether we are alone in the universe and if not whether alien civilizations are likely to be post-biological. This indirect approach to humanity’s future is the direction taken in this chapter.
