Information Experience for the Expanding Circle: Insights from Animal-Computer Interaction and More-Than-Human-Computer Interaction
Multispecies Information Science, pp 39-52
2026
Abstract
Research across information behaviour continues to expand in scope, recognising that information phenomena take more forms than previously recognised. The emergence of multispecies information science is consonant with this expansion. Meanwhile, the related field of human-computer interaction is similarly expanding in scope, including developments in the new area of animal-computer interaction. This chapter presents these ongoing expansions and draws out the connections between information behaviour, human-computer interaction, and the more-than-human. In particular, the metatheory of information experience is shown to provide theoretical grounding for this expansion and convergence, serving as a bridge between description and design.
