Abstract
Thermal vision systems use IR radiation to determine surface temperature. For opaque materials, there is no transmittance, simplifying the relationship. Use of IR allows for in-situ monitoring of the combustion synthesis process. It is possible to monitor ignition of the sample, reaction propagation velocity, time-temperature history at any point throughout the reaction, and information on the mechanism in more complicated reactions.
