The Sequential Intercept Model and Criminal Justice

Abstract
This chapter describes the development of diversion at Intercept 2 of persons with mental illness involved in the criminal justice system. The review of the literature on scientific support divides programs into prebooking, postbooking (jail-based), and combined. In addition to scientific support, the chapter summarizes the theoretical and practical support. Research and policy implications of this material are summarized.
