Civilization involves complex socio-cultural diversity in human behavior. Nearly all civilizations were based on agricultural and developed a centralized bureaucracy. As people clustered in a geographical area. Social stratification and complex edifices evolves. The move from rural to urban settings, and the evolution from “barbarian” to “civilized” behaviors led to changes in nutrition, stresses, occupations, and other major changes in activities of daily living. As a primary mode of communication, voice was affected profoundly by cultural evolution. Different settings result in different voice requirements, challenges, and disorders. It is essential to consider the impact of civilization in each individual’s life setting in order to understand the etiology and optimal treatment of voice disorders.
