Labor Education
Robust Unionism
15 May 2019
Abstract
Labor education is a dynamic enterprise, thanks to new technology, the professionalization of many practitioners, and the diversity of options available, including study on campus or off, as a participant or an observer, for one day or several years. This chapter focuses on three dimensions of labor education: programs that award degrees, including those at the Meany Center, in which I have participated for the past twelve years; AFL-CIO and other union education programs for members; and, finally, union-sponsored projects for nonunionists. Education is considered elsewhere in this book as well, in references to classroom exercises as an integral part
