MODULATION OF CYCLIC NUCLEOTIDE METABOLISM BY ANTIPSYCHOTICS THROUGH A NON-DOPAMINE RECEPTOR
Catecholamines: Basic and Clinical Frontiers, pp 529-531
1979
Abstract
Several antipsychotics of diverse chemical structure selectively bind to the endogenous calcium-dependent protein activator (calmodulin) of adenylate cyclase and phosphodiesterase. By contrast, dopamine failed to bind to calmodulin. These results suggest that several of the diverse biochemical actions of antipsychotic drugs on the cyclic nucleotide system may be explained by a common mechanism, namely, by binding to calmodulin, and raise the possibility that antipsychotics and dopamine may be acting at different sites.
