Abstract
The influence of the environment is one of the reasons preventing a successful application of nonoxide ceramics in different high-temperature devices. Nevertheless mechanical tests on them are often performed only in inert media. According to the present knowledge [6.1, 2] the strength of ceramics on heating should slightly change first within the temperature range of brittle fracture, then increase somewhat when the temperature of brittle-ductile transition (~ 0.5 – 0.6 Tm) is approached, and at last decrease sharply in the temperature range of viscous flow (Fig. 6.1).
