Abstract
Margaret Brennan, a flight attendant for Pan American World Airways since 1969, earned media attention in 1987 for “acting more like a corporate raider ready to make a move.”¹ Chairperson of a ten thousand-member coalition composed of members of Pan Am’s unions of flight attendants, pilots, ticket agents, and flight engineers, Brennan tried to force a thorough restructuring of the nation’s seventh largest airline. The coalition’s goals were to find another airline or investor to take over the troubled carrier, to replace top management, and, in return for reasonable labor concessions, to gain substantial ownership of Pan Am.
