Abstract
Many of the nation’s union members feel labor is inadequately represented in the media and is the focus of inappropriate hostility. Chapter 10 explores several imaginative and wellfinanced efforts to improve this situation.
AFL-CIO economist John Zalusky reminded the media on Labor Day 1988 that organized labor has historically supported major legislative drives, such as all the civil rights acts and the successful bill to create Medicare. He forecast a significant intensification of legislative efforts in this decade: "If there’s anything we’ve learned from the Reagan administration, it’s that if we don’t follow up what we get at the bargaining
