Abstract
This chapter presents a review the recent theoretical and empirical literature regarding risk factors and protective factors among juvenile offenders. It highlights the distinction between static and dynamic factors, particularly the implications that they have for the development, implementation, and effectiveness of intervention strategies. The chapter includes a discussion of the current trends in the treatment of juvenile offenders, with a particular emphasis on empirically tested “best-practice” intervention approaches, and concludes by discussing directions for future research in the area of juvenile offending.
