Risk assessment with juveniles
APA handbook of psychology and juvenile justice, pp 365-384
2016
Abstract
In this chapter, we provide a concise overview of juvenile risk assessment. We begin by presenting a brief history of juvenile risk assessment, with a particular focus on the development of the field of juvenile risk assessment, an examination of relevant foundational trends, and the regulation of juvenile risk assessment. Next, we focus on current empirical research regarding juvenile risk assessment, including discussions of models of juvenile risk assessment, empirically supported risk and protective factors, and the predictive and incremental validity of juvenile risk assessment measures. Finally, we discuss implications for practice, policy, and research, with a discussion focused on conducting juvenile risk assessments and future directions for research and policy.
