Abstract
Seclusion and restraint have been a part of inpatient mental health care since its inception. Over the century, strategies and techniques to reduce the use of these methods as well as make them more humane have been implemented. There continues to be a use of and, at times, reliance on these methods to address patient behaviors. This chapter addresses the practice of restraint and seclusion and provides up-to-date information on best practices for the utilization of these techniques.
