Abstract

Sudden sensorineural hearing loss is a condition that occurs within a 3-day period and causes hearing loss of about 30 dB in three contiguous audiometric frequencies. It accounts for about 1% of all new cases of sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and affects about 4000 Americans and similar percentages of patients in other countries annually. It can occur at any age. As with other forms of SNHL, some etiologies can be treated with results improvement in hearing and/or discrimination ability.
