Abstract
This book chapter provides a succinct overview of adolescent substance abuse from a systemic perspective. The chapter is outlined to review the following topics as they relate to this topic: (a) prevalence and correlates; (b) definition and assessment; (c) approaches to treatment; (d) prevention; (e) intervention; (f) policy considerations; and (g) future directions in research, training, clinical practice, and policy. From this chapter, the reader will better understand the current state of the adolescent substance abuse field and will be able to identify considerations for future research, practice, and policy related to adolescent substance abuse.
