2025
Abstract
There are a large number of systemic disorders that can cause hearing loss. They include common conditions such as aging, infections such as Lyme disease and COVID, diabetes, ischemia, allergy, autoimmune inner ear disease, and many others. They also include a great number of rare conditions and syndromes. Some of the causes are treatable. In addition, hearing loss sometimes is the first symptom of a serious systemic disease. So, it is imperative to make every effort to determine the etiology of hearing loss.
