Abstract

Displaced fracture K-wires Open reduction and internal fixation Percutaneous pinning T-condylar fractures
By definition, T-condylar fractures are intra-articular, distal humerus fractures characterized by a central intercondylar split and extension of the fracture line proximally through both the medial and lateral columns. T-condylar fractures in children are rare elbow fractures and are, perhaps, the most challenging to manage. As opposed to the much more common supracondylar fractures of the humerus, these fractures more commonly require open reduction to restore the joint surface. Additionally, because patients with these injuries often straddle the border between pediatric and adult treatment strategies, pediatric orthopedic surgeons often are faced with using techniques for fixation that are less often used in the younger patient compared to simple pinning constructs.
