THE INFLUENCE OF BACTERIAL ENDOTOXIN ON THE DIELECTRIC RELAXATION OF BOVINE SERUM ALBUMIN
Biomedical Engineering I, pp 267-271
1982
Abstract
Dielectric studies on bovine serum albumin, BSA, with the addition of endotoxin produced skewed Cole-Cole plots and a decrease in the dielectric increment. Addition of Zn+2 enhanced the interaction of the endotoxin with BSA to decrease markedly the dielectric increment. Dielectric measurements on lipid A and polysaccharides isolated from endotoxin in the presence and absence of the divalent zinc ion illustrated that it is the polysaccharides which are greatly influenced by the zinc ion. The addition of vitamin C to BSA-endotoxin solutions produced changes in the dispersion curves as expected from the resulting pH change.
