Teaching the Life and Law of RBG Exploring Beyond Her Sex Equality Jurisprudence
The Jurisprudential Legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, pp 295-308
01 Jan 2023
Abstract
After Justice Ginsburg died in September 2020, we found ourselves eager to learn more about this legal pioneer, so we designed a law school seminar that would enable us, along with a group of curious law students, to explore her contributions more deeply. This chapter describes the course and discusses the pedagogical and scholarly value of teaching such a seminar to upper-level law students. It begins with a brief overview of the course. It then offers observations about three areas where students acquired substantive knowledge or deeper understanding about different aspects of lawmaking and our legal system through studying the work of Justice Ginsburg. It then reflects on how such a course can shape the scholarly work of the professors teaching it. Finally, it makes suggestions for faculty who might wish to adapt a similar course at their school, including how to use this volume productively for classroom learning.
