Team or community of practice : aligning tasks, structures, and technologies
Virtual teams that work : creating conditions for virtual team effectiveness, pp 292-306

Abstract
The main enabler of the virtualization of teams and organizations is information technology. Through the use of phone, e-mail, fax, videoconferencing, and other communications technologies, individuals are able to bridge differences of time and space (Wiesenfeld, Raghuram, and Garud, 1998). However, evidence indicates that the use of technology is not yet very widespread. The set of technological tools that particular teams have access to is often limited, and the tools that are available are used in limited ways.
