The Hugoniot Relationships for Nonlinear Elastic Substances

Abstract
The classical theory of shock waves in liquid and gases is the prototype for similar developments in the theory of shock waves in nonlinear elastic media. In this paper, we explore the weak shock waves in solids using the Lagrangian description. In particular, we present the formula for the entropy jump in the weak shock waves which generalizes the classical result for shocks in liquids.
