Abstract
To some extent, perhaps, MODEM is what the AFL-CIO had in mind
when it created LaborNET. That system’s demise is unfortunate. For a while
it performed an info-sharing function. But it was cost prohibitive for that
purpose. Its dialogue strings too often took on a soapbox quality, and flaming became far too common. The LaborNET issue has been worthy of much
discussion, and we hope labor has learned much from its shortcomings.
