Abstract
Women's intersectional social, political and economic positions shape their experiences with, definitions of, and strategies for dealing with corruption. Nevertheless, the literature on gender and corruption tends to ignore or devalue these experiences. This chapter is aimed at corrective action by developing a framework for understanding corruption as a gendered institution. To do so requires focusing on Global South women's perspectives and experiences of corruption. We begin by examining gaps in theory and practice revealed through an integrative literature review of scholarly and "grey" practitioner literature and comparative analysis. Findings reveal opportunities for feminist, intersectional, and interdisciplinary work centred on Global South experiences of corruption in everyday life to connect research, policy, and practice better.
