Vascular Anatomy of the Brain
Introduction to Vascular Neurosurgery, pp 3-29
01 Jan 2022
Abstract
This chapter describes the vascular anatomy of the brain including the arterial supply and venous drainage. It begins by describing the anterior circulation forming from the carotid arteries, common variants, and fetal remnants. The anterior circulation has several anastomoses to posterior circulation. The posterior circulation supply emanates from the bilateral vertebral arteries. The surface of the brain is drained by the major superficial and deep veins, to the dural venous sinuses, and eventually to the jugular veins.
