Abstract
In this chapter, we focus on measurement in behavioral intervention research. We provide a comprehensive discussion of the key considerations in measurement, including types of measures, factors to consider when selecting a measure, measurement approaches, methods for collecting outcomes data, the role of measurement at different stages of the pipeline or lifecycle of an intervention, statistical properties of measures, mediation, moderation, and the role of technology in measurement. The topics of clinical significance and equity in measurement are also addressed. Our goal is to provide a “roadmap” to guide decision-making when selecting measures for behavioral intervention research from developmental to dissemination and scaling stages.
